BKN301 brings QR payments on taxis in Georgia

San Marino-based BKN301 has partnered with the municipality of the Georgian capital to introduce digital payments for taxi fares in the city. With the new solution, called ‘Keepz’, passengers can pay for their rides by simply scanning a QR code on the driver’s phone and entering their card details.

In a major relief for citizens and tourists in Tbilisi, every taxi driver will now be equipped with a QR code, making it easier for passengers to pay for their rides. The taxi drivers will receive the payment directly to their bank account.

The move is seen as a significant step towards the digital payment culture in Georgia, where the digital payment industry surpassed $1 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach $2.5 billion by the end of 2027.

Kakha Kaladze, Mayor of Tbilisi said, “As of today, taxi fares can only be paid in cash, as drivers do not have the opportunity to purchase bank terminals. The company BKN301 offered us an interesting proposal. I think this is an innovative and fast method of receiving payments using a QR code. QR codes will be placed on the backs of car seats or other places. The customer will scan the QR code with his mobile phone and easily pay the fare, and the taxi driver will instantly receive the money in his bank account.”
