Atom bankAtom bank has named Andrew Marshall as its Chief Financial Officer, taking over from co-founder David McCarthy. Marshall has worked at Atom for six years, holding a number of roles, and was most recently deputy CRO and director of corporate finance.

He is replacing McCarthy, who stepped down from the role in September. The bank says McCarthy will join the senior team of Atom management.

“David will take up a crucial role within the Atom management team and his knowledge will be invaluable as we continue to develop our products and services,” said Anthony Thomson, Chairman of Atom. “David’s experience in financial services PLC, mutual and start-up sectors, is exactly the talent we need for this bank. I am delighted to welcome him to the senior team.”

In recent weeks, Atom has seen several senior appointments, including that of Andy Sturrock and Rebecca Cartwright who were named as chief technology officer and chief risk officer respectively.

The latest appointment comes at a time amid continued speculation that the bank could go public. Atom had called off its merger with a US-based special purpose acquisition company earlier this year. Reports state that Atom has been interviewing investment banks in relation to flotation for 2023.

Atom is a retail bank in the UK built for smartphones or tablets, without any branches. Founded in 2014, it is the first digital-only challenger bank to have received a full UK regulatory licence.
